Handy Hints

Get the most out of Command™ Products with these simple instructions and demonstrations.

Picture Hanging Strips

Command™ Picture Hanging Strips make decorating quick and easy. One click tells you Picture Hanging Strips are locked in and holding tight. Best of all, when you are ready to take down or move your pictures, they come off cleanly—no nail holes, cracked plaster or sticky residue.

To Apply Picture Hanging Strips

  • don’t use household cleaners

    First, clean the wall with isopropyl rubbing alcohol by wiping gently. Don't use household cleaners like wipes or sprays because they leave behind a slippery residue.

  • press two strips together

    Separate the strips. Press two strips together until they click.

  • remove one of the green liners

    Remove one of the green liners and press onto the frame. Repeat with the other pairs of strips as shown above. Place the lower pair of strips about 2/3 down from the top of the frame. Check your package for the correct weight limits.

  • remove the remaining liners

    Remove the remaining liners and press frame on the wall. Press each side of the frame firmly against the wall for 30 seconds.

  • remove the frame

    To ensure the adhesive will hold, remove the frame by grabbing the bottom corners and peeling the frame up and away from the wall. Don't pull straight off. Now, press the strips that remained on the wall for 30 seconds. Make sure to press the entire strip.

  • wait 1 hour

    Wait 1 hour before reattaching the frame. Line up the strips on the frame with the strips on the wall.  Press until each pair of strips click and lock in place.

To Remove Picture Hanging Strips

  • remove the frame by grabbing the bottom

    Remove the frame by grabbing the bottom corners and peeling the frame up and away from the wall. Don't pull straight off.

  • peel the strip

    Remember to never pull the strips towards you or peel from the wall. Always pull straight down as slow as you can.

  • when removing the strip

    Slowly stretch the strip straight down, keeping your hand against the wall as you go. Keep stretching up to 15 inches.

Hooks with Clear Strips

Hooks with clear strips blend in seamlessly allowing you to show what matters most, your decor, not how it's hung up.

To Apply Clear Hooks

  • clean with

    Clear strips work best on smooth surfaces. Clean with isopropyl rubbing alcohol by wiping gently. Don't use household cleaners like wipes or sprays because they leave behind a slippery residue.

  • separate strips

    Separate the strips and remove the black liner—it's the one marked "Wall Side". Now press the strip directly onto the wall where you want to hang your hook. Press along the entire strip for 30 seconds.

  • remove the blue liner

    Finally, remove the blue liner and press the hook onto the strip firmly for about 30 seconds. The harder you press, the stronger the adhesive bond will be. Wait 1 hour before hanging anything on the hook. This allows the adhesive bond to reach maximum strength. Check your packaging for the correct weight limits.

To Remove Clear Hooks

  • hold the hook gently in place

    Hold the hook gently in place (so it doesn't snap your fingers!) but don't press it against the wall.

  • never pull the strip towards you

    Remember to never pull the strip towards you. Always pull straight down as slow as you can.

  • stretch up to 15 inches

    Slowly stretch the strip straight down, keeping your hand against the wall as you go. Keep stretching up to 15 inches until the hook releases from the strip.

All Other Hooks

Command™ Hooks are available in a wide range of designs to match your individual style and decor. They also come in a variety of sizes and hold a surprising amount of weight.

To Apply a 2-Piece Hook

  • first clean

    First, clean the wall with isopropyl rubbing alcohol by wiping gently. Don't use household cleaners like wipes or sprays because they leave behind a slippery residue.

  • separate the strips and remove the red liner.

    Separate the strips and remove the red liner. Press the strip onto the backside of the hook.

  • press against the wall

    Now press the hook firmly against the wall for about 30 seconds. The harder you press, the stronger the adhesive bond will be.

Do you have a small one-piece hook without a base?
If yes, skip the remaining steps, but don't forget to wait 1 hour before hanging.

  • slide the hook up and off

    In order to get the adhesive to really stick, you need to slide the hook up and off the mounting base.

  • press firmly against the wall

    Now press the base firmly against the wall for 30 more seconds.

  • slide the hook back on

    Slide the hook back on. Wait 1 hour before hanging anything on the hook. This allows the adhesive bond to reach maximum strength. Check your package for the correct weight limits.

To Remove Hooks

  • reveal the mounting base and strip

    If you don't see the Command® Strip poking out the bottom of your hook, then slide the hook up to reveal the mounting base and strip.

  • hold the base gently

    Hold the base gently in place (so it doesn't snap your fingers!), but don't press it against the wall.

  • always pull straight down

    Remember to never pull the strip towards you. Always pull straight down as slow as you can.

  • slowly strech the strip down

    Slowly stretch the strip straight down, keeping your hand against the wall as you go. Keep stretching up to 15 inches until the hook releases from the strip.
